Two forums set for primary candidates

Four Democrats vying for seat in 22nd Assembly District

The four Democrats running in the June 3 primary for the right to succeed Sally Lieber in the 22nd Assembly District will have two chances in the next week to meet with voters and answer questions.

On Thursday, the Cupertino/Sunnyvale branch of the League of Women Voters is sponsoring a forum at 7 p.m. at the Cupertino Community Hall, 10350 Torre Ave. Candidates in the district, which includes Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Cupertino and parts of Los Altos, Santa Clara and San Jose, will each give statements and take questions.

The four Democrats are Dominic Caserta, a Santa Clara council member; Paul Fong, a Foothill-DeAnza trustee; Anna Song, a member of the Santa Clara County Board of Education; and Kris Wang, a Cupertino council member and former mayor. The Republican candidate in that race, bank manager Brent Oya, is unopposed.

The four candidates also will appear at a forum Monday sponsored by the Los Altos/Mountain View chapter of the League of Women Voters. The forum, in the Mountain View City Council's chambers, 500 Castro St., also will include the candidates running for Santa Clara County's only contested judicial race.

The candidates in the race for Superior Court, Office No. 8, are Jay Boyarsky, deputy district attorney; Lane Liroff, deputy district attorney; Diane Ritchie, Santa Clara County attorney and mediator; Tim Pitsker, Santa Clara County prosecutor; and Jesus "Jess" Valencia, superior court commissioner.

They will present their positions and answer questions starting at 7. Then, at 8 p.m., the candidates for the 22nd Assembly seat will follow.

For more information on the candidates, see www.smartvoter.org, the League of Women Voters' election information site.
