Gunn grad may be new assistant superintendent

Skelly recommends Davis; school board vote will decide

Palo Alto School District Superintendent Kevin Skelly announced this week he will recommend local graduate Virginia Davis as the next assistant superintendent of educational services.

If the school board confirms the selection at its May 13 meeting, Davis will replace Associate Superintendent Marilyn Cook, who is retiring this summer.

Davis attended Barron Park Elementary School, Terman Middle School and Gunn High School, according to a district statement. She earned her bachelor's degree in history at the University of California, Davis and her master's in education at Stanford University.

For the past three years, Davis has been the associate superintendent of the Davis Joint Unified School District and currently resides in Davis. Prior to that, she was the assistant superintendent in the Dixon Unified School District. Davis has also worked as a social studies teacher, department chair and both the vice principal and principal in middle and elementary schools.

"Mrs. Davis' experiences in district leadership and educational services will serve our district well and her work in Davis should hold her in good stead as she moves to Palo Alto," Skelly said in the statement.

Assistant Superintendent Scott Bowers said Davis will start her new job on July 1.

Davis and her husband have three grown children. Her mother still lives in Palo Alto.
